Restore an earlier WordPress post with Revisions safely

Exercise goal: recover a deliberately damaged test post without copying the entire page from elsewhere.

Prerequisites: permission to edit posts and at least two saves. Keep a normal site backup before practicing.

Create a test post, write three recognizable paragraphs, and select Update to create a revision for comparison.

In a second edit, deliberately remove the middle paragraph and change the title, then select Update again.

Open Revisions from the post settings. If it is absent, you may not have enough revisions or the post type may not support them.

On the comparison screen, move the slider one step back and match the added and removed colors to the actual text.

Choose the version containing the missing paragraph and run Restore This Revision.

Return to the editor and verify the title and all three paragraphs, then open the public page.

Manually reapply only one useful sentence from the newer version. Restoring a revision replaces the saved content rather than one selected line.

Do not confuse an autosave with a revision: autosave is temporary protection, while revisions are saved states you can compare.

If the site uses page caching, clear that page after restoration so the public view does not show stale content.

Success check: the editor and public page show the intended version, and you can explain the differences before restoring.
