WordPress Tutorial: Restore Earlier Content with Revisions
WordPress Tutorial: Restore Earlier Content with Revisions
Revisions retain saved versions of posts and pages so you can compare content changes.
Open the item in the editor and look for Revisions in the post or page settings.
If no versions were saved or revisions are disabled, there is no history to restore.
Select available versions and read the changes to the text and title before restoring.
Depending on your WordPress interface, comparisons may appear visually or as HTML text.
When you find the right version, use Restore and review the recovered content.
An autosave differs from a regular revision and does not automatically replace published content.
Restoring a post does not replace a complete site backup covering files, plugins, and the database.
Suggested exercise: save a small change in a test post, then restore its earlier version.
Finally, inspect the public page; post revisions are not a repair tool for plugin or theme code.
